This article explains how to mark activities as optional in Momenta. Optional activities can supplement the core journey without being required for completion, making them perfect for readings, videos, or bonus learning content.
Introduction & Purpose
Marking activities as optional provides flexibility in your journey design. Participants will see that the content is not required, but depending on scoring and blueprinting, optional content may still impact progress. Use this for supplemental material like:
- Recommended readings
- Elective videos
- Bonus exercises
How to Set Optional Activities
- Go to the Journey Flow tab in your journey
- Locate the Stage, Module, or Activity you want to modify
- Click the three-dot menunext to the item and select:
- Edit Stage, Edit Module, or Edit Activity
- In the edit window, navigate to the Lifecycle tab
- Check the box labeled Make Optional
- Click Save
Levels of Optionality
- Stage-Level Optionality: All modules and activities within the stage inherit optional status
- Module-Level Optionality: All activities inside the module are treated as optional
- Activity-Level Optionality: You can make a single activity optional without affecting others
Watchouts & Considerations
- Optional status cascades downward — setting a stage or module as optional makes everything inside it optional
- Clearly communicate in instructions that an item is optional to reduce confusion
- Participants will see a visual indicator that marks an activity as optional
- Blueprinting and scoring logic may still impact journey progress if not configured properly
Visual Aids
