This article provides a comprehensive guide to managing user tags within the Momenta platform. User tags allow BTS and clients to collect relevant participant data for segmentation, reporting, and dashboard integration.
Introduction & Purpose
User tags in Momenta allow BTS and client teams to collect, customize, and report on participant data. This guide outlines how to configure and apply user tags across all levels—global, client, journey, cohort, and individual user.
Target Audience
- GSA (Global System Administrator): Configures tags at the global level.
- JSM (Journey Success Manager): Manages visibility and customization at client, journey, and cohort levels.
- Consultant: May advise on tag design based on program needs.
- Participant: Interacts with tag options if enabled.
Managing User Tags – Global Level
- Only GSAs can access and configure global-level user tag groups.
- Navigate to Admin Options > User Tags to view and manage tags.
- Tag groups fall under categories: Personal Data, Your Role, Your Business, Other.
- Each tag group can be toggled on/off for visibility and client default status.
- Click the edit icon to modify group options, descriptions, or default values.
Creating a New User Tag Group (Global)
- Go to Admin Options > User Tags.
- Select the relevant category tab.
- Click Tag Group + to create a new group.
- Define:
- Tag group name & description
- Placeholder text (e.g., "Please select XYZ")
- Options for participants to choose from
- Toggle on/off default group status
- Click Save to publish. The group is now available for use.
Note: If your journey is translated into multiple languages, the tag group must be recreated for each language.
User Tags at Client Level
- Navigate to the desired client via Client Collection > Settings.
- Go to the User Tags tab to manage tag groups for that client.
- GSAs and JSMs can modify tag group visibility and add client-specific options.
- Tag groups enabled at the global level appear here and can be:
- Toggled on/off
- Edited for name, description, and placeholder
- Customized with client-only options
- Client-level changes do not affect global configurations.
- To create a custom tag group, click Custom Tag Group + and complete the setup form.
User Tags at Journey Level
- Tags can be toggled on/off from those available at the client level.
- To make further changes, update tags at the client level.
User Tags at Cohort Level
- Similar to journey-level behavior—only toggling visibility is available.
- Changes must be made higher in the hierarchy (client or global).
User Tags at User Level
- User-level configuration is limited to toggling tags on/off.
- Any changes must be made at the client or global level.
Watchouts & Considerations
- Only GSAs can configure tags at the global level.
- Client-level tags override global tags for that client only.
- Participant-visible tag groups must be toggled on for each journey/cohort.
- Translated journeys require manual tag group setup in each language.
- Client-specific names show the original global name in parentheses for clarity.
- Custom tags are helpful for reporting and dashboards but do not impact global analytics.
